有馬温泉・高山荘 華野の料亭「遊山」を訪れると、まず目を奪われるのが、壁に掛けられた存在感ある掛け花入です。

この作品は、19世紀頃に作られた吹き矢を加工し、一輪挿しとして生まれ変わらせたもの。稲葉京氏のコレクションから館主が出会い、その圧倒的な存在感と美しさに惹かれ、料亭の中心にふさわしいと設置を決めました。

一輪挿しとしては異例の大きさを誇るこの吹き矢は、ただの器を超えてコンテンポラリーアートの真髄を体現しています。さらに、館主は照明の演出にもこだわり、長いシルエットを強調するため、斜め上から光をあて影までも作品の一部として際立たせています。

この思想の根底には、稲葉京氏が館主を務める伊豆の温泉旅館・玉峰館の「掛花入は一輪挿しのみ」という哲学があります。ひとつの花に全ての経験と技を注ぐという精神に感銘を受け、華野でもその緊張感を受け継ぎ、一輪挿しの掛け花を日々生け続けています。

華野の「遊山」で供される料理とともに、この掛花入を眺めるひとときは、食事の時間をより豊かに、そして心を澄ませてくれる特別な体験です。吹き矢が宿す力強さと、花一輪の儚さ。その対比が、旅館ならではの美の空間を生み出しています。

Upon entering Yuzan, the restaurant within Takayamaso Hanano in Arima Onsen, one’s attention is immediately drawn to a striking hanging flower vase displayed on the wall.

Originally crafted in the 19th century as a blowpipe, this piece has been reborn as a single-flower vase. The innkeeper encountered it through the collection of art connoisseur Kyo Inaba and was deeply moved by its commanding presence and beauty—deciding it was perfectly suited for the heart of the restaurant.

Unusually large for a flower vase, the piece transcends its function as a vessel, embodying the essence of contemporary art. The innkeeper further enhances its form through lighting design: a soft beam cast from above accentuates its elongated silhouette, turning shadow itself into part of the artwork.

This concept draws inspiration from the philosophy of Gyokuhokan, a hot spring inn in Izu managed by Inaba himself, where the rule is “only single-flower vases are used.” The spirit of devoting one’s full attention and artistry to a single bloom resonated deeply with Hanano’s proprietor, who continues this discipline by arranging a new single flower each day.

As guests enjoy their meal at Yuzan, the presence of this transformed blowpipe invites reflection. The contrast between the object’s quiet strength and the fragility of a single flower enriches the dining experience—creating a moment of stillness and profound beauty unique to Hanano.
